Project Description

This was without a doubt the most difficult repair job I have ever been asked to do. This poor early 50s goldtop had a beautiful flame top but had been routed for a Hagstrom vibrato …in addition the bridge area had been chiseled out to accommodate a full height ABR1 bridge.
Doing repairs of this nature are difficult at the best of times………factor in the flame, mineral streaking and the fact that the finish is transparent and you end up with a real challenge. We plugged the holes using aged maple and I spent many hours recreating the flame and grain by airbrush and fine paint brush. Next the faded teaburst finish was applied and thankfully the repair is fairly hidden…
